Have you ever asked yourself, “who is the Holy Spirit?” There is one go to source to get all the answers — the Bible. The Bible has a lot to say about Him. Come take a journey with me through the Word and let’s see what it has to say.
He is the promise … the advocate
And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of Truth. The world cannot accept Him, because it neither sees Him or knows Him. But you know Him, for He lives with you and will be in you.
~ John 14:16-17
Jesus promised you the advocate. The comforter. The helper. And you can hold fast to this promise.
Holy Spirit is our teacher
But the advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you ALL things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
~ John 14:26
But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of Truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of me.
~ John 15:26
The Father will send you a teacher who will tell you ALL things. He is, in fact, the Spirit of Truth. He knows ALL. And all you need to do is ask, and He will teach and guide you in that same truth.
He is your assurance
When you are uncertain. I will confirm for you all that you need to know. Whatever questions you have …. ASK HOLY SPIRIT! He will show you. Answer you. Direct you. Guide you.
Holy Spirit is a person
What makes up a person? A person is defined as someone who is ALIVE and has a SOUL – MIND, WILL & EMOTIONS.
You think with your mind, desire with your will, and feel with your emotions. And the Holy Spirit also does each of these things.
God wants you to think like He thinks. He wants you to desire what He desires. And He wants you to feel what He feels.
He has a mind
When He (Holy Spirit) the Spirit of Truth comes, He will guide you into all truth.
~ John 16:13
Holy Spirit is omniscient. He KNOWS ALL TRUTH!! And He has committed to be your teacher. What do you need knowledge and wisdom of? Ask the Holy Spirit!
If you need wisdom, ASK our generous God, and He will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.
~ James 1:5
He has a will
Now when they had gone through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach in Asia.
~ Acts 16:6
The word forbid means to exercise one’s own will. If you want to follow God’s will about something, you must follow His timing! The right thing in the wrong season is a curse. The Holy Spirt will guide, direct and sometimes … forbid us … to do certain things. We must be obedient to those promptings to stay in obedience to His will.
He has emotions
The fruits of the Spirit are emotions. And each one describes a quality of who the Holy Spirit is. These fruits are all traits of a person.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
~Galations 5:22-23
Grief is an emotion. Sin grieves the Holy Spirit. Grief is the sadness that is felt when you lose intimacy with a person. The Holy Spirit wants to walk in deep intimacy with us. But when we sin, there is a divide. There is a separation between you and the whisper of His still small voice in your ear. You distance yourself from being able to be intimate with the Holy Spirit. But when you repent, then the Holy Spirt can draw near and speak and then you can hear clearly again.
And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
~Ephesians 4:30
He says, “walk, move, go, or be still.” And now you can freely hear clearly what the Holy Spirit’s direction is for your life.
You cannot allow your natural inclinations to determine what He wants to do through you supernaturally in this next season. It doesn’t matter what you do not naturally have, because Holy Spirit can give you supernaturally everything that you need to fulfill the tasks that He has assigned to you.
God equips the called. He does not call the equipped.
Holy Spirit speaks
However, when He, the Spirit of Truth, has come, He will guide you into ALL TRUTH; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak, and He will tell you of things to come.
~ John 16:13
The Holy Spirt is our GPS for life. He will tell you of things to come.

BE STILL!
All of these commands and navigational directions are provided. Your only responsibility is to obey. I know that seems like such a simple statement. But yet, you always find yourself at a crossroad of indecision about what step to take next. When your are in doubt or confused, always go back to the last direction from His voice that you knew to be truth.
Start walking those steps again. Proceed cautiously. If you don’t get additional clear direction for your next step. Wait.
You will get additional direction when the timing is right. In the meantime, it’s okay to just BE STILL.
